Boudoir outfits for plus size
If you are choosing lingerie, make sure you have selected it in advance of your shoot and have an idea of how it will look on your body. Your photographer will often work with you to select the perfect boudoir outfits for your body type. A pretty robe, luxe jewelry and hair accessories could be helpful to have on hand as well. Flattering plus size boudoir outfits could also include:
- Bodysuits
A well-chosen bodysuit can be a fantastic way to accentuate the body’s curves. Make sure to pick something appropriate to your size that is comfortable and easy to move around in. - Oversized shirts
If you aren’t into fancy lingerie or want a more casual shoot, an oversized shirt is an easy option to capture a sensual look. - High heels
Heels add length to the leg and can be used to draw the eyes along all the right angles in a well-posed photo. - High waist panty and bra set
If you don’t want to spend money on other lingerie, a bra and panty set is a great alternative. One you wear them every day, so you won’t feel like you are buying a piece you will only wear once. Two, a high waist panty will accentuate those gorgeous curves of yours.
Boudoir photo ideas for plus size
Boudoir photos are not just for leaner body types – your plus size, curvy body is amazing and a good photographer knows just how to show it off. Here are our top tips for the most flattering poses.
- On your side
Laying on your side gives the photographer a lot of options for posing with bedsheets or other props, while capturing a very flattering angle. - Shot from above
This is a popular choice and a great way to show off your body. - Legs up
Lying on your front with your legs bent or lifted up and propped against a wall shows off your curves in all the right places. - From the back
A view from behind captures the lines and curves of your shape in a beautiful way. - Sitting on your knees
This is a great pose if you want a confident, bold shot. Try looking straight at the camera and tilt your head up slightly. - Lean against a wall
This is an easy way to capture a flattering upright shot and emphasize the length of your legs.
Boudoir photo shoot tips
It’s important to work with a photographer you feel comfortable with. Most boudoir photographers will offer a consultation before your session to share information and offer their best tips for your boudoir photo shoot. A consultation also gives you a chance to get to know your photographer before committing to the process.
Here are our top tips for preparing for your boudoir photo shoot!
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing to the studio
Today is not the day to wear your skinniest skinny jeans! Make sure you’re not wearing anything that will leave marks on your skin or feel restrictive in any way. Today is all about feeling comfortable, relaxed and expressive – so make sure you set the right tone for your day from the very start. - Schedule around your period
This might seem like a no-brainer, but it’s important to plan ahead and pick a time of the month when you aren’t grumpy, bloated and cramping! - Invest in some extra primping
Get your hair done or touched up, and if you can go for a manicure and pedicure. These small details really make a difference, and can be an extra little boost for your confidence if you’re feeling nervous. And perhaps it goes without saying, but make sure you have shaved or waxed and treated your skin appropriately afterward. Even the most flattering boudoir outfits won’t hide stubble or red bumps – and your photographer doesn’t need the job of Photoshopping those things out afterwards. - Be honest
Talk to your photographer honestly about your body and any nerves or concerns you have. Whether you are plus size or not, boudoir photos are all about showing off your body in a way you feel comfortable with. You may need to push past some fears to get there, but ultimately the shoot is all about you finding a comfort zone that serves you in this moment.
Boudoir and body positivity
Your first boudoir shoot might feel either exciting or terrifying – or perhaps both. If you are plus size, you might be wondering how your boudoir photos will make you feel about your body after the shoot. Will you see yourself the same, or differently? Will you feel better about yourself – or worse?
Listen to what one of our clients had to say:
“Body confidence has always been something I’ve struggled with throughout my life! I’ve always been a little bit bigger than the other girls, and as much as I say it’s whatever, it’s always really bothered me! The experience Martina provided me was something I’ve never felt before. It was the absolute most amazing thing I’ve ever done and I’m going to cherish these pictures for so long! The first thing I thought of when I saw my pictures was “I’m so beautiful” and being able to have that first thought in my head was the most amazing feeling!”
The important thing to note is that boudoir photography is first and foremost about the client. The purpose of the photo shoot is to capture an individual’s spirit, essence and energy. As such, for some it can be a powerful tool towards gaining a positive body image. When clients begin to see themselves from – quite literally – new angles, something changes. If you are plus size, boudoir photos should help you see yourself the way others see you: beautiful, vibrant, and worth celebrating.
Our hope here at Martina Warwick Studios is that we can give women – plus size or otherwise – gorgeous boudoir photos that truly capture their beauty and personality.
